What causes the starter bushing in the cone to go bad? I got towed from the sandbar this weekend due to a bad bushing. This was my first trip with the new starter too.

What kind of starter? Stocker? New/rebuilt, aftermarket high dollar type?...MP

Sierra marine top mount, supposed to be high torque, new, cost around $210

are you sure the flywheel isn't the problem? it just takes a few bad spots to cause high load on the cone bushing.

No, I'm not sure. I'm going to check the flex plate next.
