Thread: What RPM?

I had my maiden voyage in my new (too me - Y2K) Commander 23ft open bow and the 454 mpi ran smoothly. Having said that, what should I limit the RPM to? It cruised comfortably at around 38K and I had it around 45K without any issues, but I was wondering where I should draw the line. 52K?

That a lot of rpm. You meant 3800-4500 rpm right.
Depending on the prop. the rpm will probably get to 4800-5000 with no problems.

You're right, that is kinda high and when I typed it didn't even look right, but I was tired and let it go...I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to point it out. Thanks. :hammerhea
BTW, I'm running a 4 blade prop with 22 pitch. It's pretty dinged up, so I thought about replacing it with a 3 blade while I get this one cleaned up, but can't figure out what pitch to go to.

My friend is running a 23 pitch 3 blade on his 23 ft Crownline open bow with a 454 and bravo 1 and pulls around 47-4900 rpm and still pulls skiers well.
