Thread: Remote oil filter - experience??

A couple of weeks ago I installed a Summit brand remote oil filter adapter with a Wix 51515 filter. Yesterday was the shakedown for it and I noticed something. Motor is a 403 Olds that is a very mild 250hp.
I had good oil pressure when I first fired it up, then as I was idling thru the no wake zone, I saw the oil pressure bouncing around. It would go to about 40, then drop to 20, then back up to 30 and so on. After I brought the rpm's up a little and got the boat on plane, it continued for about another 30 seconds and then went to 50 where it stayed. Any time I shut the boat off, it would do the same thing again.
Prior to installing the remote filter, I always carried 45-50 psi at cruising and above, and never below 35-40 at hot idle.
Any thoughts on what's going on?

I know in my Gen VI BBC, I had to change out the bypass valve for a stronger one to allow for the higher pressures caused by the added restriction.
I've had no probs with my remote system.
    Good luck,
    J
