10 fwy bike race?

Did anyone see all the bikes on the 10 fwy between Indio and Blythe Sun? I've seen them many times over the years but never knew if it was a race or what. Does anyone know what it is? Somehow It just doesn't look much fun, I want to be in the van following the racers.

I saw em' as I drove by in the 100+ degree heat with my AC on full blast. I started sweating just looking at them.

Yes, it was the Race Across America. Oceanside to New Jersey (3,000 miles) in 5 to 8 days depending if you are riding as an individual or as a team.
