I prefer the facts of performance and personally don't care much if a boat is splashed on not. Of course style and looks plays an important role.
I would like to know if any readers on this forum have a ss24 or sr24 with stock HP 500 power. Has this power/boat combo ever been tested in the magazines? If so, please post some info.

my buddies 2000 SS with 454/385 GPS speeds runs 75 with a stock 3 blade mirage plus and 73 with a stock 4 blade Rev. 4.
    73/385x470=89.1mph
Our elavation is around 800 feet and temps around low to mid 90's and humid as hell.

    How about this one?
    385 to go 73
    470 - 385 = 85 hp
14 hp to go 1 mph
    85 / 14 = 6 mph
    73 + 6 = 79 mph for a hp
    I like this one better
In this month's hot boat it had a SR running 64.7 w/385 mag @ 4800. Then they put a Teague prepare Vortech 570 (@ the crank or the prop???) (probably at the crank) and it ran 82.3 with a big pitch prop.
    570 @ the prop - 385 = 185
    570 crank -30 = 540 @ the prop - 385 = 155
    82.3 - 64.7 = 17.6
    185 / 17.6 = 10.5 hp per mph
    155 / 17.6 ==8.8 hp per mph

Mikehtmsr24, Thanks for posting this info. This is the stuff that interests me. I like the way you look at incremental hp vs. mph. Have you ever looked at the hp vs. mph increase at slower speeds vs high speeds? In other words what hp does it take to go from 60 to 70 compared to 80 to 90? I also liked the web site you suggested. In particular the calculation that factors in weight of the boat, hp, slip and mph.
Regarding your comments on the 1.50 gear, I have heard what your source quoted. I would agree with this statement with hp and torque that is less than 600. Over that, you begin to run into potential problems with that 1.50 gear if you have a hyd. roller cam. The props become two big for the boat because you are trying to keep the rpm in the hyd roller cam ramge.
I must say I am guessing at that 600 number. I know for a fact that a 25 daytona with a hp 500 runs much better with a 1.50 gear that a 1.36. See the Riverliver need 100mph string. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

I agree with what you are saying about the slip getting better as you go faster. I'm sure their is a huge difference on slip at 75% throttle compared to 100%. More air less boat in the water and better slip.
If you get on offshoreonly do a search for Tomcat. He has some good post on this kind of stuff.
My torque with my roller cam (Crane 139741)
was 647@4200 and 650@5400 and my best was @ 4700@676.
    Highest rpm @ 5684 torque was 630.7 and hp was @ 682.6. Lowest rpm @ 3440 torque was @627.4 and hp was @ 410.8
I'll send you some pics if you send me some of your bad ride, Mike
