Is it possible to add power trim to an older (1972) Merc 1400 (140hp) that does not have power trim now?

I guess you could IF you could find the parts. The easiest way to do this would be to get a trim plate assy from cook manufacturing thru
    http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...012&hasJS=true . Cost is 400-600 and it's a simple deal.
    Good luck.

I looked at those, but it says ther are only rated upto 130hp. Whats the difference between the 130hp and this 140hp besides 10hp ? Is it weight or the design?

Your old one is flywheel rated and newer ones are rated at the prop shaft. If you want tilt & trim buy it. No biggie.
