    AN fittings and stainless hose sizes to fractions? I have a hose I need to replace that runs from the jet to the oil cooler. Looks like the hose ends are 3/4 inch ID and the hose is probably close to 1/2 inch ID.
    Thanks in advance

    I just did some hoses on my boat and its like this:
    AN 4 = 5/16
    AN 6 = 3/8
    AN 8 = 7/16
    AN 10 = 1/2
    Hope that helps!

    Helps alot. Thanks. But, what about my 3/4 inch fittings? I'd guess -12?

    That is almost right
    each # is 1/16
    4=4/16=1/4
    6=6/16=3/8
    8=8/16=1/2
    10=10/16=5/8
    12=12/16=3/4
    etc

    Now the numbers make sense to me. Thanks

    Actually the hose runs slightly smaller than it's intended AN conversion size so you will have trouble sliding a -12 on a 3/4 fitting for example....
    Take a look at the chart. (http://www.rexmar.com/page174.html)

    Thanks. It looks like I need -10 line and -12 fittings then?

    -10 fittings work with -10 hose, -12 fittings work with -12 hose, so on and so forth. What Rexone is trying to say is that stainless braided hose that is meant to be run with AN fittings doesn't always equate to it's fractional equivalent in rubber hose with push on barbs. If you're going to run AN, run AN, if you're going to run rubber, run rubber. For the areas that are currently using push on rubber hose, you buy AN adapters to fit into the pipe threads and provide an AN flare fitting for AN hose ends to attach to. For instance, if the holes in the casting of your oil cooler, were 3/4" pipe, you would buy a 3/4" pipe to 12AN adapter fitting, then run -12 hose and -12 fittings.
    Hopefully that makes sense and is somewhat helpful. Remember Superdave at Sweet Performance Plumbing (http://www.sweetperformance.com/contacts.htm) is your ***boat hookup for all things braided/AN.

    Good deal then. I planned on using AN fittings and hose.
    Thanks for clearing that up.
