I am re-doing the plumbing on my eliminator and have been looking at the regulators that Rex has to offer. I need a little guidence as to what I should do.
Is there an optimum pressure that should be coming into the engine or does it matter? Is just a ball valve sufficient.
should I put a cleanout in line( I know that gets asked alot ) but I just have mixed thoughts.
    thanks for any guidence....v-drive

I've heard 15-20lbs, I put a bypass regulator (10 to 50lbs) and a gauge in for this year. With the thing screwed down tight I havent seen any more than 20lbs yet, I'm thinking of plugging it off just to see what my max is without it (just for shits and grins). It was a really easy install and I'm sure it doesn't hurt anything. Just run a "T" after your shut off valve and dump it to a through hull.

IMHO it depends what kind of exhaust system you are running. I am running logs with no thermostat or anything and there is no restriction from intake to dump. I had some water in my oil and was going to set up a bypass, but decided to test it first with this:

Turned out that the pressure never got over 15-20 lbs. to begin with. In my case the water in the oil was apparently condensation from running the water too cold. Since adjusting it to a 160* - 180* idle temp the problem has gone away.
Headers are a completely different animal. Search for "bypass", "regulator", or "T-valve" on this forum and you will find a lot of good info and discussion.
You can also find an extensive article about it here:
