I've pretty much started reassembling the motor so you'll be seeing a lot of posts like this... sorry :rollside: (it's my first build).
Tonight i installed my ARP rocker arm studs and guide plates. I decided to set a rocker on a couple of the studs and i just want to make sure this looks right. It almost seamed at first that the rocker studs where too short. I compared my new studs and old studs, they are the same length. Also on a few studs when setting the rocker on the stud the rocker didn't just want to set on the valve tip, it slid off the side but i assume that's normal because there's not a push rod putting pressure on it. Sorry if these are stupid basic questions, I'm a bit paranoid/nervous I just want to make sure i do this right.

same as above but a pic from above

here's a pic with me holding the rocker so the roller is centered on the valve tip and the rocker is 90 degree to the retainer/valve

    Shaun,
dont worry about anything until you get the push rods in there.
In pic #3 it looks like the trunion or rocker pivot is upside down. Rotate it 180 and you should be seeing a flat machined area where the poly lock sits.
Do a search here on --push rod length-- and read how to check for proper push rod length.
Make sure you soak the rockers in oil before assembly. They only get splash oiled.
    Be good, Jim

i would invest in an adjustable push rod checker. Heck not much of an investment only around 10 bucks a set. Easy way to ensure the push rods are the correct length.

Thanks for the responce. I did buy the adjustible push rod length checkers. I had another post about push rods a while back and steelcomp was nice enough to go into detail about how to determine the correct length. I printed that out so i have it for reference.
Here's the thread if anybody else is interested. http://***boat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103410
trunion being upside down, i didnt realize that. Looking at the rockers now it makes sense. thanks for catching that! :hammerhea

Shaun, at this point, stop and go to a lunati or comp or crower website (the higher end valve train component manufacturers) and you need to do some reading. What you need to read on is how to measure for pushrod length and also how to set up for optimum valve train geometry. It is kind of a tricky deal, and I had the good fortune of watching Fiat48 set up my last engine build, as I had never done it before. Lots of checking and double checking and cross referencing different manufacturerÂ’s methods to determine the right length. Be careful here and this is where you should be taking a ton of pictures if there is no one there to watch what you are doing.
