How much HP is typically lost from the motor to the drive. Merc's HP525 is rated at 500 at the prop... what would this motor actually be dynoed at?

How much HP is typically lost from the motor to the drive.I've heard 25 HP on the B1...25 more on the XZ...more on the #6 cuz of the trans.
    I could be wrong.

It depends mostly on the drive. I have heard #'s approximately:
    Bravo 1: 25hp
    B-Max: 75-100hp.
    #6 dry sump: 35hp (w/o tranny)
    #6 wet sump: 85hp (w/o tranny)
    not sure of Imco's

I think the 500 EFI makes 500 hp at the crank but is rated at 470 psh on the B-1. Not sure about the XR.

I heard you lost 15% at every turn so add 30% so 611 hp at engine for hp500. Not sure about this but thought I would throw it in the mix.
