Thread: rubber bellows

    what does the rubber bellow below the gimbal housing do or protect? My buddy just found that his has a small tear in it.

    depends on what drive you have If its a volvo that could be the exhust the upper one protects the ujoints and should be replaced as soon as possible. if its a mercruiser there is only one and it protects the ujoints

    Also keeps the water out of the boat. If you have a torn bellows and leave the boat in the water a while, the bilge pump could discharge the battery and the boat will sink. Seen it happen a few times. :220v:

    Mercruiser has 3: u-joint,exhaust,shift cable.
