I have a mini 14, very nice rifle, fast bullet 223. It's also called a ranch rifle. And they are legal in Ca, but not with a clip over 5 rnds.
Use to have a mini14... use to go to the forrest and cut small trees down..lol They allow that is Arkansas.. The also allow MUCH larger clips

Picked up my Bushmaster AR last year in AZ....it stays out there, not worth dealing with the attention it receives here in CA even if it is legal

the mini 14 is legal for sale in CA, but like the 10-22 your lucky if you can get on the paper at 100 yds. The accuracy is so bad "out of the box" 6-10" groups are the norm....
you must be a bad shot i have no problem at 100 yards and 3-5 inches with my mini14 .With my ar15 under 2 with open sights no problem.
I have both the ar and the mini-14 to be honest the mini 14 is probably more reliable as far as dirt and outside conditions go also(but are mag sensitive best ones to go with are pmi, massen,or factory)I got lucky and got 3 factory hi caps and 2 pmis). The ar15 is a more sensitive.I really havent had a problem since i clean the ar more often the mini is more of my desert abuse gun plus it can fire pretty fast But the ar i have is set up for 600 yrd targets and i reload some very good ammo for it.
for a plinker the mini is hard to beat for comp shooting ar15 is the way to go

Some of the minis shoot fairly well... the ones I have shot just suck. I get sub 3 inch groups with my nylon 66 and sub 2 with my M1...

As much as I enjoyed my previous life with guns...I am not allowed to own one any more......feds have no sense of humor. But, my family in San Deigo has a collection they want to sell....NOTHING ILLEGAL, just to clarify that. Mostly really nice revolvers, left handed bolt action rifles, some Colt 45's, mini 14..... they must got through a dealer too......I have a handfull of 30rd AR mags, HK-USP9(15), and misc stuff...along with several thousand .223 rounds...some military(all sorts of cool tip colors Mostly black....I would like to sell......... I can get lists for those interested.
    PM me if interested....
