Hands down get the new 6.0 Vortec max with the 345 HP, 385 Lbs torque over the 5.3.
Day and night over the 5.3 and gets 1-2 MPG better. Can run on regular as well, Premium for towing as in the 5.3 anyway. Worth every bit more. Do not get confused with the regular 6.0 be sure it is the vortec max.

    What do you tow?(Weight)
What trucks? (6.0 is only avaliable in the 1500 4x4 crew cab-Vortec Max)
5.3 Runs and tows great (Tows less than the 6liter but gets alot better mileage)
6.0 HO makes a ton of power and the truck flat out scoots.(10Klb tow rating and bad mileage)

I agree with everything but the gas mileage.
6.0 HO dosen't get better mileage than the 5.3
We get right at 21 MPG on the freeway while not towing with our 5.3
Most 6.0 owners are lucky to get 15 MPG

15 Damn!! I'm lucky to keep a constant 11 mpg w/33's(not towing). What does the HO/Max have in it that the reg. 6.0L doesn't?

My wifes 2000 Sierra has a 5.3 and it tows well. Nothing big though, steel, wood, boats, general towing stuff.
It gets pretty crazy "on the pipe", damn I think the engine is going to come out of the grille sometimes.
Around town and on the highway it gets pretty good gas mileage.
Overall I am pretty happy with it.
She has 125,000 on the odometer and mostly just maintainance stuff has gone wrong with it.
I would always go with the bigger motor, but that is just me.

    More HP
Pretty sure 15 is as good as it gets and that is a stock 2wd based 6.0L
Our H2 gets 10-12 on a good day (Not Towing)

I have the 5.3 in My 2000 tahoe its spinning 36's on it not regeared and I've towed a 23 ft No problem. Powerful motor I must say. I just saw a 6.0L converson done yester in an 04 1500 4x4. I must say with headers, and dual exhausted and a chip that MOFO sounds mean! I am considering the headers and chip on my truck in a few weeks.
