Well after replacing everything else in this engine, I figure I might as well replace the cam so I know what's in it. Here's what it is.
18' flatbottom jet
390 FE ford
.060 over 9.6:1 KB hypereutectic flattops
stock valve springs and rockers
fresh Berk A
Edelbrock streetmaster 390 single plane intake
Holley 3310 750 vac sec
Pertronix in stock dist or Mallory Unilite (have both haven't made up my mind yet)
Edelbrock logs, no snails 2 7/8" tips.
Anyone have a good grind for an FE?

True. On the 460, I thought I was conservative with a cam with 234*@ .050, but I'm thinking the 390 should have a little less duration than that. I've been told to keep the gross lift under .550, so that limits the grinds available also.
234* @ .050 is just fine in my opinion for a decent duration. but thats not what you need to worry about with water reversion. choose a cam profile with a higher intake to exhaust lobe separation angle. no less than 112 and i would go with maybe a little more, 114 or 115. i would even go with a little less duration and lift and keep the rpms down lower. 218 - 224 duration with 510 lift. with a fresh "A" cut impeller and a standard performance build on the engine components, id want to keep the rpms down low and use the torque curve to your advantage. just my $.02

I checked with Clay Smith and George recommends his H300 cam 244@.050 and a .560 lift. Didn't get the overlap. Seems a bit stout to me. He was a little concerned about compression being at 9.6:1, but should handle it with 91 octane.
The last cam I ran in my 390 came from cam technics and was pretty big. I had 427 medium risers on the motor. Pistons and block were releaved for the valve clearence.
