Excess fuel in the intake, either the runners dripping into the valve pockets or the plentium floor puddled with liquid fuel which also runs down the runners toward the valves. Can also be fuel vapor built up in the runners, but un wanted by the engine at idle. This vapor will also liquify if not used quickly. Usually cured with a clean out burp or two, but sometimes this will contribute to the problem as the air is again shut down and the delivered fuel liquifies again.......MP

Yep, that pretty much covers it. Usually the idle slowly starts to fall and stalls, is then usually tough to restart unless cracking the throttle open a fair ammount to let extra air in. Before idle stalls, it may be very rough coming off idle for a couple secconds till the puddled condition is cleared by the additional airflow.

When you come out the burnout box and it is running like shit, so you put it in neutral and clean it out.
