Need Some Help! Anyone work for AAA or the DMV?

I am about to pick up a project hull but it doesnt have any paperwork for it. The owner says it hasnt been registered since 85' and doesnt have any HIN on it. Anyone know how I can go about registering the boat??All and any info will be greatly appreciated.

Does it still have CF #s on it? If not, you may have to take it to an inspection station, either DMV or maybe CHP. In AZ they put #s on the hull and don't tell you where they are, I'm not sure about Cal. Be sure to get a detailed receipt, as detailed as possible, then contact the DMV and see what they say.......MP
