buying cel phones on ebay

Help, I need a new phone and I'm not "eligible" for an upgrade for about 8 months.
I have Cingular (also, for another 8 months) and the local store I dealt with was absolutely no help on this. I was told I could get a phone on ebay.
Anyone know what do I need to look for in a cingular compatible phone.

Becareful buying them on e-Bay. I bought one for my Daughter a few years back and found out it was stolen. Apparently the person selling the phones worked for Sprint and was stealing them. Sprint was good enough to give me a new phone once provided them with a receipt that showed I purchased from the person that was under investigation.

You will need a 1900 mhz GSM unlocked phone. You will just need to pop your existing sim card into the new phone.
Type in Cingular GSM Phone in the search engine on ebay, plenty will come up.
If you want to come over to Sprint or Nextel we will pay half of your early term fee with Cingular.

Thanks, for the info. I found quite a few GSM and unlocked phones but not too many 1900 mhz GSM unlocked from motorola

call 611 on your cell and talk to customer service,they can do what the stores can't.

Well I called Cingular's 611 and they were willing to sell me a Razr (only phone I could think of) for 299.99. Been with them since 03 and ATT for a few years before that.
This sucks.
Nextel4U what do you have to offer? PM a contact number?
