I was just thinking today about what stuff i have left to buy so complete my rebuild and i was thinking about the mains... To run the windage tray i have the main bolts with the extentions on them... They're pretty long, dont think any of my deep sockets will work, how are you guys torquing these?

I use a deep socket that's very deep and is broached out enough to clear the standoff. I think it's a Proto, can't remember for sure.

A deep impact socket works fine also.

I scrambled to find something that would work on one engine. If they are the GM windage tray studs, the deep impact socket should work. I don't think the aftermarket studs are that much longer that it would not work with them as well.

I cut a socket in half and welded a piece of pipe in between.

I have had no trouble with deepwell impact sockets, but a crows-foot wrench is the standard back-up choice. Just put it on 90 degrees to the side of the wrench so as to not alter the torque value. Otherwise there is a sorta lengthy re-calculation to make to discover how much to set the torque wrench lower (if the crows-foot points off the end) or higher (if it points toward the wrench).
