I can't remember who it was that wanted some pics of the old wooden boats from Tahoe but here they are. What a great display of awesome old boats!
We got there a little late to walk down on the docks to see the boats up close but we got pics of what we could.
My wife and I decided that if we find one that fits our wants...bye bye jet boat.
    Maybe like this one

yep, it was this past Saturday at the Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay. Apparently this was just a "small" show....the big one is in Aug on the same weekend as Hot August nights in Reno. As it was, there were people from all over the country at this show with their boats.

Nice pics....thanks for sharing. Beautiful boats. Yeah, it'd be nice to cruise Tahoe in one of those.

I would love to own one of these some day--Tahoe is one beautiful place with clear water to use these Doesn't get much better.

This was the site of the 2006 Antique Classic Boat Society's Annual Meeting and Intl Boat Show. A Great Big Deal for ACBS members. Lasted pretty much the whole week.
Cas, the one your wife wants is a one-of-a-kind 55' boat built in 1940 by John Hacker for George Whittel, the guy that built the Thunderbird Lodge on Tahoe. The boat's named Thunderbird and has 2 Allison V12's in it. It cost Whittel almost $3.5 million to have it built in 1940! It's made of Honduras mahogany with a brushed stainless steel deckhouse, designed to reflect the lines of Whittel's personal Douglas DC2 airplane.
Whittel sold it to William Harrah in 1969 and a lady named Joan Gibb owns it now.
If you think the boat's something, take a tour of Thunderbird Lodge and go see the boathouse!
Before you think I'm some sort of authority on this stuff, I'm not...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last nite.....
Actually there's a big article on the boat in last quarter's ACBS Rudder magazine (Yes, THEY have a magazine...)

You can buy a new wooden boat similar to those, BadBlown572 (Danny) owns a company that builds them Hogan Marine (http://www.hoganmarineinc.com/)
