Not yet but I'm thinking about it ! The Doc says I have a herniated cervical disk..hurts like hell. He said a "block" will help. You got the same thing ??

nope I got pinched nerves in my c4 to c7.. Had one session last friday but need 3 more..

It is my understanding that the shots only last so long and then you have to do it again.

I am Upsman's wife. I have a chronic pain condition from the birth of our five year old daughter. I have had approximately 25 different injections in my back.
I am guessing your injections are going to be under flouroscopy (x-ray). I have had several of these type of injections. Definitely ask for medication to help relax you. It will usually be Versed which totally helps you relax and makes the experience much more pleasant. You will need to have someone drive you home.
Honestly, the injections are painful but if you have some sort of medication before, it REALLY helps. If you have the injections without medication be prepared a very painful experience. The procedure does not last for long but having a needle stuck in an area that is already in pain certainly doesn't help. Not to scare you but if you have a choice, again I definitely recommend the medication.
Afterwards, usually the pain gets worse. The injections did not work for me but I have heard of many many many people who have had great success with the injections. But again, you will probably feel a little worse for a few days afterwards and the nurse will probably tell you that. I always asked for medication to help get through the pain afterwards. Once the numbing medication wears off, the pain can be pretty bad. You will definitely want to take the day off and rest. And, you may want to rest the day after as well.
Everyone is different of course. It really depends on your issue and how you tolerate pain. I have a high tolerance for pain but unfortunately, the injections made for a very painful week afterwards.
Just a little background so you understand my problem. I started having pain about three months after our baby was born. I thought that it was just normal back pain from holding and rocking her due to her having colic.
The pain over the next year got much worse. I have seen a about 15-20 different physicians: chiropractors, neurologists, neuro surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, spine specialists, etc.
I have also had accupuncture, prolotherapy, used magnets, physical therapy, chiropractic care, etc. My pain is constant and always at least a five. It will usually get up to an 8-9 one time during the day.
At this point, I see a really great pain specialist who has done nerve tests. The tests revealed that I had nerve damage and the doctors believe I have irreversable tendon and ligament damage because it took so long to diagnose the problem.
I look at the whole thing like this. If this is the worse health problem I have then I feel lucky. We have a BEAUTIFUL daughther who we have been blessed with. She is totally worth every ounce of pain in my body. I have to say that we are done have children because I don't think my body could endure another pregnancy.

I have 4 bad ''herniated'' disk starting with C2/3 down to 5/6 the last is one is pressing on my spine 7cm I have had the block one time, we stopped the series because the dick head surgeon wouldn't call me back after the locals war off and the back spasums started, got so bad I could not even hold my head up. Also had the focker looked at all 4 of my MRI's he would have noticed that C5/6 disk started collapsing.
My famley Dr who is also a surgen had to ketch that one for the money curbing focking neuro surgeon.
Now it's a wait and see game.

Holly I dont have much time to reply as I have to leave in 15 mins. This si my second session and its with a neurologist. I have sever pain going into my left arm causing it to go numb fall asleep tingle etc etc with lots of driving especially druing peak season as your husband will know the word peak season and u being the wife of a ups driver it gets up to a 8 and taking 6 inbuproffins every day doesnt even help. Anyway after my first sesssion which was done last friday on the left side I have been on bed rest I have never had so much pain in my life. I got vertigo back after he did the injection in my c4 I felt severe pain shoot in behind my ear. It feels like my neck cant support the weight of my head. Today they are going into to do the right side and itis done under flouro. I will let you know how it goes but so far not to good I have been off work since last week.
