These are pics that my mom recently gave to me of my dad who served in WWII. He was my step father who rasied me since the age of 6. He passed away in 1987 and received many medals such as The Distingusied Flying Cross which I now have too. I have a box full of news paper articals as well as pictures. I am going to keep some of it an donate the rest to Palm Springs Air Museum. The news paper artical shown was written in 1945. The story is about my dad piloting a P-51 Mustang and scoring his first victory over the Luftwaffe while helping to escort heavy bombers over Germany. The two smaller pics are of my dad blowing up a German train. The other picture is of him standing in front of his first plane a P-40.

Hey thanks for posting that. Reading that other thread and hearing of people that seem to be loosing faith in America and then seeing this.
It's sad to see and hear people talk that way even though I do understand. Well, I'm never going to loose faith even though I might not like some things that are going on right now. How can we after what guys like your pops did for us?
My grandfather owned a machine shop during WW2. Your dad prolly flew his parts.

The news paper articals that I have are amazing. It looks like my dad served under General James "Jimmy" Doolittle. He was part of the Eight Air Forces. I have so much history of WWII sitting here on my kitchen table. Unbelivable!
My dad was pretty amazing. The way he received the Distinguished Flying Cross was, his best friend "last name Pitz" got shot down in enemy territory. If they survived the crash, they were supposed to try and destroy any and all records. After that they were on their own. My dad saw where he went down and saw an area where he could land his plane. He went down and rescued his friend, but the aircrafts cockpit was set up for one person only. My dad worked the foot controls while his friend sat in his lap and worked the rest of the controls. When they arrived back to the base they were going to court marshall my dad for not following procedures. But, when the public and media here this, there was such and uproar that he received the medal instead. Here's a couple more pics. The first one if of my dad and his friend, Pitz.

Very cool. Heres a link I found about my Grandfather during the War when our fighter patrolled off the California coast. Amazing to think we had to protect that area at the time. Anyway grandpa always told me about this mishap and how he was ordered not to land the plane in the rough seas. He did because he wanted to save the pilot in which he did that day. Years later after he passed, I found this story on the internet that described what he had always told me. It was amazing to find this documentation.

    Very cool.
I am in the Air Force. He helped lay the ground work for the worlds strongest Air Force. You should be VERY proud and it seems that you are. What was his name? I might be able to find some more info out.
