OK,I know I'll get the dunce of the day for this one,so let it rip.Late in the season last year putting our 460 ford together on a Friday to play on Sat.a minor detail got overlooked.Between the remote oil cooler & filter the lines got reversed so the flow was going backwards through the filter.Anybody know what this can do,engine had good oil pressure at idle (40) but would drop at high rpm (25-30).Didn't know if this was problem or not.Just pulled motor out for winter to do some things & noticed this. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/eek.gif

Don't feel to bad,I did the same thing.I called Fram about how the flow should go,in the outer diameter holes and out the center. They said it would not cause harm, just not filter properly.Changed the lines back installed a new filter. All's fine...I stand to be corrected,on certin filters there is a pressure relief valve. That would cause problems if flow was in revers. My filter did not have that valve!

Thanks HammerDown for the reply.Have a motorcraft FL1A filter, heard an instance of a newer Ford that rattled when startup, guy was told to pitch oil filter & put a Motorcraft back on it to cure problem.Dont know if this means they have a valve or not. Were re-study the pictures to make sure we did have it backwards.Should of paid more attention coming apart.Hell, summers over,Im so broke i cant afford to pay attention. How about another cold COORS LIGHT http://free.***boat.net/ubb/tongue.gif

Oil & bottom of the pan wiped up clean, going to pull caps & check bearings.Well actually for the price of safety were going to replace them, motor probably has at least 300 hours on it.I think we need to check out the lines to cooler & filter and the cooler itself (stock omc unit)for restrictions as this seems more likely the problem.Any other ideas of what could cause pressure to drop if bottom end is tight. After running hard,at idle you can hear faint lifter tap, were running RHOADES lifters, this could be thier nature? Also to add more ka-oss,I've got a home made oil pan on it that has 10 qt cap.the pick-up tube runs aprox.3/4" off the bottom, think it could be cavatating with that much oil in it?I'm definitly replacing that this time along with pump and p.u.tube.Thanks for the input. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif
