Any one have a V6 05/06/07 Tacoma?? If so, how does it tow??

Probably going to be towing a 3-4000lb jet boat. More than likely I would only be towing it from oc to parker a couple times a year. I would probably just leave it at my place up there. A new F150 is out of my price range. I'm looking to spend like 22 or 23k....

I used to tow a 1979 Sanger Superjet (18' boat on a tandem trailer with no brakes) with a 1990 Toyota v-6 4x4 x-cab. It did fine. Would tow from So Cal to Havi and back. Even towed it to Powell once with a 550 Kawi Ski in the bed. I remember having to stand on the brakes if you had to stop fast. :220v:
The new Tacoma is a much bigger truck with a full 1.0 litre more motor so you should do OK. Toyota has the tow rating on their webite.

Also a friend of mine bought brand 05 tacoma, at 1100 mile the rear axle broke and came sliding out, it did 12k in damage when the frame hit the ground. Nothing more then a set of golf clubs in the bed and never towed anthing. It just gave way going around the a corner at 15 mph.

I used kelly blue book to get the pricing and a f150 STX with the 4.6 v8 was like $25k XLT was maybe $1k more. I'm obviously looking at 06's. I've only gotten one quote from a dealer and it was like 28k for an STX...ridiculous

I towed my flat from Oregon to Cali. 06 Tacoma Towed it like it was not even there. Pulled the hills with no issues and stoping was not a problem.

Keep looking for used trucks. We just paid $20k for an 05 crew cab chevy LT. Has everything on it. Towing package, electric everything, leather, etc. Will easily tow what you are wanting to tow. Just pulled our 21 commander last weekend. Did great. The used market is soft right now. There are great deals out there if you're patient.

We have a 06 V6 auto.
Towing ya shift the shifter in drive to the left locking out overdrive. Important.
1st gear is kinda of a granny so that's good too.
They can blab and talk up all the horsepower they want, but it's still a 6.
Torque and RPM is the BFD, and the Tacoma is just adequate.
Our boat is about 2500lbs w/trailer loaded and that's a full plate, and I think 4000lbs would be the most I'd want to tow with the Tacoma v6 pre runner.
You'll be fine if your boat trailer has brakes, which by law it has too, and the CHP/AZHP are hep to the laws.
The brakes are excellent. All Toyota dealers are questionable on ethics.

A toyota breaking an axle???That was an anomaly. While I will admit, a tacoma size-wise is not going to be the greatest towing vehicle, the boat will probably push it around a bit down hill and braking will be fun, but drivetrain-wise it should be fine. I have a bias when it comes to Toyota. We are on our second toy, the first was a 1999 4 Runner which we just got rid of with 240,000 miles. Towed a 4 seater wave runner for 3 years and the 21 ft BTO for a summer. Has the same 3.4 Liter engine, trans and rear that it was sold to us with. It just passed smog in February with brand new car like numbers. The tech thought I was running rubbing alcohol with the fuel to lower the numbers. My in-laws have a 2002 Tundra which just hit 300,000 miles with the V-8. Original engine, trans and rear. Original fuel injectors, fuel pump, power steering pump, alternator on both as well. Same story with the smog check. He tows with it as well with 0 problems. We now have a 2005 4 Runner Limited with the V-8 and it tows like a champ, compared to my 2004 F-450 powerstroke diesel I use at work. My point is that the V-6 and drivetrain should be fine. As far as reliability, IMO, Toyota is second to none.
