Thread: Pump setback

Probably already been gone over eleventy five times already....but, what am I gonna gain by setting my pump back? I've been told that guys have had intakes "reset" because the "old" manufactures didn't have a clue on where to put them. I see spacers between the bowl and nozzel too. Will that do the same thing? Or does moving the intake back help in its own way? I've already got a ride plate and loader, but I see HTP has a "adjustable" shoe setup. The boats going down to the bare hull, so now would be the time.

In short, moving the pump back also moves the biting edge of the Intake back...thus less Hull wetted surface at WOT. Hopfully the boat has enough WOT potential to benefit from the setback in the first place.
I did my setback...there are several pics somewhere on this site.
Not only does my 21 Daytona pack air better, it goes a little faster up top and one of the biggest positive factors for me...more room in the boat as the rear bench seat is now some +6" back.

I was thinking that I'd take the extra room up with a jet away from HTP. Your right tho...wondering if my ride is worth it or would benifit. You did yours yourself?

My jet was baught already set back so I can't give you a before/after opinion. What I can say though is it gives you more room up front which is always a good thing! My boat seems to air out better than others that don't have the set back also.

Yep all 100% of it...even the custom made Transom adapter and it came out perfect.
Note much research told me NOT to bust all the way out the back...thus the 1" of Hull in the rear.

Nope...the custom transom plate has a curve in that area and the hand hole cover is easly removed.

Let me just mention...it was suggested that (I) leave a small bit of Hull in the bottom vs blowing all the way out the back. Reason...for a fun weekend lake/river Hot Rod boat that often see's rough chop there's a better chance of (not) having a leaky boat with stress crack problems in that area.
MPD machines off some of the rear Intake so it can go back a little further than normal.
Jack was an awesome support through this...it can be done but, measure everything more than twice and think ahead of each step. AND you MUST take ALL measurements/calcuations from the underside of the Hull not inside!
All in all...it was fun and I'm very pleased with I did it myself.
