Ya ever own a car or truck that $100 more spent by the builder would have saved thousands in repairs later on?
Cars like the Chevy Vega, Powerstroke V8, first year Miata & Rabbit Diesel & V8 Yamaha Ford engine with the pullys annihilating shafts.
Any hundred bux away from being good stories?:

My 87 s 15 pick up... the power stiring pump braket broke.. threw the pump in to the water pump cracking it and shearing off the timeing cover. Went to several junk yards. All the brakets were cracked in the same place mine broke. So went to GM... the braket gained almost 4 lbs... yeah GM didn't know there was a prob with it.

Yes...early 80's Jeeps with the sheet metal motor mount brackets. Was out 4x4ing and had the engine drop and pierce the oil pan. Replacements from every chain store were these gigantic cast parts!

My 87 Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe. Factory paint was junk. Actually still have the car and have won a few awards with it. Obviously not the opriginal paint anymore.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ga12-2-03m.jpg Funny you mention that. This one I bought for $100 and might have put a little more in. So I guess you could say it was $100 away from saving me thousands.

97 chevy astrovan fuel gauge sending unit..... lasted all of the first (3) years
    we owned it.
the service manager even said Chevy should recall the vans for this part.
since 1997 (this was around 2002-ish) he said Chevy had gone thru over
9 revisions of this same part as a "fix"........ still no recall. the new part
cost's 500+ bucks..... fuel pump, sender, etc assembly.
finally our intank pump died. I bought the GM replacement. the new sending
unit has a new design for the sender. the "fingers" are longer and more
    flexible for the rehostat....
--the whole design sucked in the beginning.......
--It's no wonder why jap cars are killing american cars. I finally broke down
and bought a brand new 2007 Camry XLE..... damn fine little car.
