They keep the boat from hooking and pitching your ass when it comes down.

They make it look faster on the trailer.

Jeff Bennett design & installed them on Jerry's CP Tunnel (as well as initially on Tom Bandy's CP) to 'Ease' high speed shutdown and minimize, if not eliminate, the Driver being 'Pitched Out' during shutdown at the end of a run as CP's have a tendency to dig/bite into the water during rapid deceleration and turn abruptly one way or the other throwing the Driver out over the deck. Jerry's boat being as light as it is exacerbates this tendency when it's coming off a quick/fast run.
Jerry got Pitched twice this year and wasn't very happy about it ...He apparenty decided enough was enough and had Jeff's 'Sponson Cushions' put on.

actually, it looks much slower on the trailer. they do make it look faster when you're sitting in your boat at 95, while it screams away from you like a rocket.
they do work though. if you've ever seen a cp tunnel completely off the gas at 100, you'd know what "stuff the nose" -really- meant. these things hold the bow up pretty well. jerry did some testing...

There's nothing like the real thing thou. :rollside:
When I lost my motor in ok city at over 100mph I thought it was gonna be over right there and then but the sponsons kept my boat from hooking. Crossed the finish line at 98mph after blowing the motor just past 1/2 track. I`m a believer in training wheels!!!! :220v: :argue: :rollside:
