    460, awesome.....
I need some advise, i am a noob... but i am on the quest for the roost..... I see that i am reviving an old thread. I have a starbuck kustom 18' that has a olds 403 with some slight mods. Bigger oil pump pan, rockers intake exhaust, cam, distrib, etc... nothing super crazy....
I like the grinding idea to get a little more angle on the diverter..... I know I have a Berk 12-jc drive but not sure of the spacer inbetween... with the brackets on both sides. He had a GM motor for the trim and a place diverter handle to adjust the gate, 7 position... Here are some pics... please let me know what i have here.... I read all of the posts bust nobody says how much to go before you are blowing seals.... what is the safe zone? also, where do you Shim? do you have any pics of where to shim?
    Thanks So Much .........

Gotta say, I'm not sure what kind of setup you've got there. Pretty sure its not a Place brand diverter though. You may try getting with Tom at JetBoat Performance, he posted some pics of an old diverter awhile back that looked similar to that.
That setup, with the cables and stuff, was like that when you got the boat, you say? Usually on the gate, or reverse bucket, it is either open or closed, no use in having the 7 different locking positions on the reverse bucket, in my opinion.
You got any more pics of the boat in general, never seen a transom like that, shaped around the bowl like that one is.....

I'd get ahold of Tom like I mentioned as well, since he is familiar with that diverter. He may have some tips on what can be done with it. I've dealt with him before on some of my stuff, really nice guy, he'll help ya out if he can. :rollside:

I know most people have the gate connectyed to the throttle to open with the throttle.... thats how my buddies cobra jet is... I have a hot foot for the carb so the diverter lever is to control forward and reverse.... more pics on way.....
    Thanks....

You should be fine. The diverter alone might not do the job though.
I am running a 78 Sanger Super Jet with Berkley 12JG pump and I just installed a Place Diverter and awsn't too happy with the tail. Then some of the guys here told me to add a 4 degree shim along with the diverter if I wanted a bigger tail. Well I did exactly that and holy chit did it ever do the trick!!!!!! She throws a nice roost of water now and the handling is still all there.
Personally I am an offshore boater and run a Sunsation 32 Dominator but the folks here have been giving me a crash course on jet boats so I can get my dads Sanger I am restoring all dialed in for him. They have been a wealth of knowledge.
Here are a couple pics throwing the roost.hey.... how about a closer look at your boat . the graphics look pretty cool on that older boat.
