8-71 should be plenty 9-10 lbs of boost on pump gas
509 cid chevy, 1981 hondo t-deck runner used for river racing. What size blower 8-71 or 10-71. No superchiller?

Running good fuel. Anyone else?
Thanks flattie. I'm interested in what other people think. Someone told me a 10-71 would be a better choice without a chiller because it could produce more boost turning slower. I dont know. Sounds kinda big to me though.
Go as big a blower as you can afford and turn it slower, a 10-71 turning 10% under is better than an 8-71 at 10% over. It produces less heat.
Bigger turning slower is better but if you go to big you'll have to ofset your distributor. How much boost are you planning on running?
I run an 8-71 with alcohol. I have heard some distributors will work with a 10-71. I believe MSD is one of them.
The bigger the better in most cases. If you have to buy a blower anyway, go with the 10-71 if your distributor will work.
The smaller the blower, the more you have to spin it, that means more heat and less efficency at high rpm's, big blower, less rpm's, less heat, more efficient!, that means more power, less wear and tear!..As far as distributor goes, you can get an offset drive for it, well worth the extra money!!....
put a high helix 14-71 on it....turn it 55% over driven and put it on alcohol...it will make a great "river racer"...lol.....just kidding
