    Hey Guys,
I have a ski/race boat and im having some trouble figuring out how to plumb the water for the cooling.
The engine is a 327 chev.
My question is how to run the pumbing.
I.E Do i run both the pickups to one side of the pump (the blocked off side) and tap into one pickup for the water of the vdrive.... or do I run one to the motor and the other to the vdrive or would that starve the engine of water? Do i run the vdrive waste back into the motor or should i run it out soemwhere else.... Should i remove the tap fitting and run into both sides If so how do i flush it?
etc etc... so many combinations but i was hoping a few people might be able to give me ideas as to how there's is setup. Hopefully the pics below will help out.
    Thanks in advance.
There is 2 pickups at the bottom of the hull:

That turn into 2 fittings inside the hull:

This is the pump on the back of the block. It has one inlet free (has an end cap on it in the pic. and the other side is hooked up to a tap fitting so it can be flushed.

It then runs up the block and out the heads:

From the heads it hooks up to the over transom exhausts and dumps
The vdrive also needs to be cooled and has an inlet on each side:

usually 1 inlet will feed the motor, i plumb my v drive through the floor close to the v drive and dump it out the prop shaft log seal area by drilling a hole and tapping it. but then again i have to cool the motor the oil cooler, the trans cooler and the v-drive. if you dont want to do that just plumb 1 to each it will be sufficent for both, and dump each seperately.

cheers thanks for the response mate, much appreciated. There is 4 holes in the hull, 3 at the back which are bung holes and one in the back right side (above water level), which i suspect is used for a bilge pump.
Could i use one of the bung holes to waste the vdrive water?

I have a pick-up that feeds the oil cooler, tranny cooler, v- drive and dump it up front by the v-drive out the bottom thru a 3/8 in pick-up turned towards the back of the boat

 i only use one water pickup the water goes to the water logs first to pre heat the water before going into the block. i do not cool the v-drive and at anytime i can put my hand on it and it is only warm to the touch. the other water pick up i have capped off also the out let which was the water log. note if you have headers over the transome exhust you can exit the water out fuel tank vent with the screen removed or out of the transom thru a nice looking bilge drain out let. you can get them at West Marine and they use a 5/8 inch hose. there a lot of ideas and food for thought on this one persons way works great for them and another for them. as long as the engine mantains proper running temp and is not getting hot or cold spots. some say cool the v-drive and others say not to. a lot of it depends on the amount of horse power you are putting and how hard you are going to run it. i have approx. 475 to 500 hp and my drive has not ever got hot. also i run synthic oil which helps cool the v-drive. i am a very strong believer of synthic gear lubes i have over 1.5 million mile driving semi truck and never had a transmission or rear end failure while running a synthic oil.
