putting a blown 540 bbc , in 24 daytona, do i need solid flywheel or will flex plate work?

I think heavy duty couplers are flywheel only?

If it is an externally balanced motor you want a flywheel for sure.
Flex plates were made to have a torque converter bolted to them. Even with an internally balanced motor you run the risk of it cracking and coming appart because of the stresses you put on it starting a big motor.
