Rankin's the wiz kid on adding or modifying strakes or anything else fiberglass.
OK hull experts, here's your chance to share your thoughts on materials for strake modifications.
I use my boat for Nostalgia and GN circle racing. An old friend suggested I widen the center strakes, using an industrial(?) strength Bondo to fashion them. Others have used Marine-Tex for the same application.
Would also appreciate any insight for methods to make sure these things stay put!

silly puddy idiota
.......'West Systems Epoxy' ........They're on the net..........
Ive used them all west systems, bondo, marine tex. Fiberglass and mat work the best
marine tex is some serious shit! However I wouldn't advise building attachments with it...
Philadelphia Resins makes a product called Pilly-Bond-Blue It is epoxy based, mixes like a bondo but has a higher soild content, sands easy after curing and is very user friendly. Only use epoxy based products if you plan to paint or speed coat the bottom. If you plan to use a polyester based gel-coat to re-finish the bottom after your done use Rankin's approach however, you will get a better mechanical adhesion and more flexable strength with epoxy for this application. Polyester materials are more rigid and will tend to crack when the boat flexes.
............Well put and true............
See weld in strakes just add tig
See weld in strakes just add tig
I don't think that weld will grip the fiberglass hull....
