Thread: 14 to 1 compression on 496 pros vs cons

    Just dropped off my engine to have it freshened up. Now is to time to decide should I lower the compresion . Ive got 496 with scat crank, je 43cc dome tops, with canfield heads. Futhermore, this boat isnt used as a family boat just my wife and I on the weekends. This is my winter project, called arent we having fun now!

    Ive got a fuel company 8 miles from me no problem with getting it. As for as cost 6.00 dollars a gallon last summer and that was sunco 114.

    Was thanking of lowering it but not sure if there would be a big enough benefit.

    are you wanting to slow the boat down???? if you are lower the compression.if you can afford to run race fuel and you like the speed then leave it the way it is. 14 to 1 and with everything else to compliment it it should be a fast ride see YA

    Think I will keep the compression since I do like the speed. Would love to have a blower but do not think I can have this set-up and a blower also.
