ok... if someone is legally diagnosed bi-polar... and is going through one of their crazy swings.. can you call the police on them and say they are a danger to themselves?
this guy is off the wall looney right now... thinks people are chasing him, hacking into his computers, into his cell phone, tracking the GPS navigation in his car. he's just off the wall... the wife has left the house with their daughter because it was getting so bad.... but he wont leave the house?
can they call the cops on him? and what would they do? arrest him? force him into a nut ward (sp?) he's pretty sketchy and hostile, and has made threats?
    weird shit I tell you!:jawdrop:

Call the police. They can either 5150 him and take him in for a 72 hour evaluation or get him to go voluntarily. When at the hospital they can get the meds straightened out.

Definitely call the police...they can handle him in the short run...his family may have to grt together and have him committed.

Pretty much what H20 said. Get the police involved first to get the immediate danger under control. He will likely then be taken to a psych annex for further evaluation. If he continues to be danger to self or others, family or someone who witnessed the behaviors may want to file for a petition to have him under COT (court ordered treatment) which will be decided by a judge. This will FORCE him to be on tx if he's dangerous and non-compliant. In AZ, COT is good for one year.

WHAT'S TX? and this is in CA ... how long would they put him in for? I wouldn't want them to move back home and him get released within a month and start all over again. this has gone on for the last 5 years, and she's calling it quits now!

Call the cops. Any time you threaten harm to yourself, it can be enough for detainment.

Sorry, so used to using medical abbreviations. Tx is "treatment."
He would not necessarily be placed somewhere inpatient, maybe only initially to get him stablilzed. He can be at home on COT but is ordered to follow up with tx (opps) treatment weather that be going regularly to psych appointments, medication follow up, counseling, ect.

If LE deems him to be a threat to self or others the will call the PET team to conduct an assesment. If they assess that he is a threat, they can hold him for 72 hours, or longer if need be. I hope this helps.
