Thread: Need help changing Gears in a C-500

Never owned a V-Drive before.. I'm currently trying to buy a friend of mines boat but it's way undergeared. We'd like to switch the gears out before next weekend, but to be perfectly honest I have no idea what I'm getting into.. Anyone have any advice? Is it as hard as they say on a C-500?
Bottom line can you do it with minimal tools and a 12 pack? Or should I just take the V-Drive to Andy Casale? Any special tools req'd just to remove the V-Drive? (Boats not here so I can't just go outside and look at it.)

    RD,
Is the boat in Newbury Park?
Take it to Hi-Tech Marine in Simi Valley.
Jim Lange can take care of it. His phone is:
    805-583-2656.

Rd the C-500s are a pain. Your better off sending it to casale or High Tech. If you go to High tech drop me a note we will have a beer. We went round and round looking for a set of gears for that thing a few weeks ago.
V-drives.com has instructions how to do it but they are a lot more trouble than a split case. Its almost less expensive to put a split case in it.

Being that this is a cruiser I like the idea of a quieter V-Drive.. I'm picking up a set up (A Certain someone said 33's but they turned out to be http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif) 32's tonight. After that I think I'm just going to rip the V-Drive out of the boat and take it to someone..
Any thing weird/hard about pulling a V-Drive or is it pretty straight forward? Any special tools req'd other then beer? http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif

RD you shouldnt need any special tools but I don't know that boat. If the boat is in the Thousand oaks / Newbury park aera I can help.

The boats down here. Myself and some friends pulled the V-Drive last night and I have the gears.. Now all I need is to find someone that's able to press off and on gears and have it back before thursday.

To be perfectly Honest I haven't "gotten the boat" yet.. I am sure as hell trying though.. LOL. Either way the gears have to be changed in the boat, and the person that I'm trying to buy it from is a friend of mine anyways so we're trying to get it done for the river this weekend.. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif Looks like we might even pull it off as well! (I had my doubts at first)
If I don't end up getting the boat he'll reimburse me for the gears and 1/2 the labor costs of installation. So it's not a bad deal.
