Just tried to put my new propshaft in only to learn that my strut is bent. Is it safe to bend it back. It appears to be bronze and should bend back easily. Its twisted making the shaft miss to the left by about an 1/8.

I would not even try to do that myself. Sounds like it's time to get a new steel strut myself.

Howard,I do straighten struts off boats no problem.I'm using a 12 ton press and different size blocks to do it .An impact will bend your strut easy enough buy hitting something like a rock or grounding, but I would suggest not to try straightening it while still on the boat.If you don't have the tools or experience,I suggest to replace the strut with a new one.Less headache and good alignment.
