Transome stickers

I just got my new registration tags in the mail and they came with the transom warning stickers. Does anybody how much grief you can get from the sheriff if they are not on your boat?

Washington just made it illegal to teak surf. No sticker requirements yet but everything from CA seems to migrate this way.
