I have everything out of my boat right now and I am debating weather to have it Regeled or sand it all down and paint it.
I re-geled it about 8 years ago but only the top and the bottom is in desperate need. I figure I will do the whole thing while everything is out.
Can anyone give me the ups and downs to paint vs gel.
Thanks
Ryan

I am not prejudice, since this is what I do for a living.......
Gel is what belongs on your boat. Granted, there are only so many graphics and designs you can do with it, but the materials are cheaper, If it's thick, it lasts longer, It's tougher than any paint, and it's repairable if you do ding it.
Stick with gel!
Gel coating is cheaper then painting?
Not if you're having someone do it, but the materials required are less expensive to buy.
Paint is more money, gel is much more labor intensive.
Thanks Ducky,
I had not realized that.I always thought it was the other way around.

Paint is more money, gel is much more labor intensive. Seems to me that there is a trade off here. If you are able to do the job youself then yes gelcoat would be cheaper (material only), then again it also depends on what type of material you decide to use!!. I think the real question here is the amount of money a person wants to spend???. Thats the bottom line. I would almost guarantee you that if you have a professional do the job(correctly) it would almost be a stand off. Just my opinion.
a professional do the job.... Know any good painters?
I need a small area on the hull of my Sanger
redone. (Trailer center bunk rubbing for 25+ yrs.)
Does anyone know a good professional in the SanJose/Santa Cruz area that could redo the section and match the original yellow gelcoat?
Thanks in advance for any info.
