Thread: 500 EFI Blower

I currently have a 27 Fountain Fever with a 500 EFI. I would like to know more about adding a Blower to my boat. I really want to know how much performance gain I can expect and how hard on the motor it is. I am currently running a true 78 mph in freash water. I would appreciate suggestions and input.

What are your goals? 78 in a non-blown 27 is pretty respectable. Performance above 80 in anything below a 29 is precarious at best. Go to a bigger rig with twins if you really want to rock and feel safe doing it...

If you're already doing 78 mph, then that boat will be chine walking all over with blower speeds. Been on a 1996 27' Fever with a procharged 500 hp that ran mid 80's and was pretty hairy passenger ride for someone like myself with only a few years boating experience.

I run 75mph on gps in a stage 2 procharged formula 252ss with a HP454/450hp (600-650 hp) at 5# boost. The procharger is a terric addition to the boat and no engine hatch mod's were required (I did raise the entire hatch 1" for more air flow). I also installed a Jacobson ignition system which improved the fuel burn considerably- no more fouled plugs or back firing. If you install a blower be sure to put in a boost referenced fuel system or you will lean out the engine at high RPM's and fry the engine. I use my boat skiing, general runabout and Poker Runs. The fuel economy is better than stock and the boat runs 14 mph faster at the same RPM as stock and 24 mph faster on top end. I LOVE A "BLOWN" ENGINE. More speed, better fuel economy, better torque, good reliability...what more can you ask ??? Just don't try to "BLOW" a stock 454 330hp !

I would install an oil temp. gauge to keep an eye on the temp. while you are at w.o.t. .Be sure it stays below 250 degrees.

2001Fever is now 27Fever, I want to thank everyone for their input. I think for the time being I am going to hold off on the Blower. However I am looking forward to a great boating season. Look for me on Smith Mountain Lake VA this summer.

Hello 27fever, We did 2 procharger Kits, a 29' fountain with a HP 500, and a 29' fountain with a 502 EFI. We got a 17 MPH with the HP 500, and a 20 MPH gain with the 29' 502 EFI. Both at a mild 3.5-5.0 lbs boost. The 502 is the most reliable engine for boosting. The internal parts are high quality, and it comes stock with a low compresion of 8.75:1. Both boats have over 400hrs of trouble free boating. hopes that helps. Regards, Claude of C & B Marine, any questions you can Email at, Kinkykanook@Mediaone.net
