almost everyone running a BBC in a jet boat is running a stroker motor. the 454 is basically a stroked 427. that said, you bet there are ALOT of stroked 454s, 502s, ect. there are a few benefits to a stroker motor, but if you really want to do it right, use a tall deck with longer rods. any way you go, more cubes is better in my opinion.

There's probably about as many stroker motors among this group of diseased HP freaks as there are factory offerings.
Sure, build one or have one built, victor's advice is solid tho to do it with a taller block.
Hell, why stop at 535, go big or go home.

If you are going to spend the kind of money that strokermotors wants you would be better off to use a better block than stock chevy tall deck, I know they are good but there are better blocks for the money you might check out http://www.dyno-flo.com/m-pro-line-572.html or http://www.dyno-flo.com/m-pro-line-598.html these guys are great to work with, ask for scott he has always done me right.

    What is your Budget?
    What is your power goal?
What type of rpm you want run for peak?
With these questions answered the board can better direct you on a combo to work for you.

Judging from shopping around. It looks like I can build for $8,000. I would like to get 700-750hp.

To build an engine with say a peak of 6400 rpm for a jet and make 700 to 750HP is going to take one these:
High compression High maintenace 468 with a very good set of heads and induction.
    or
540 to 572 CID with pump gas (93 octane) friendly compression and mild maintenance.
Depending on what parts you have to start with and you budget will determine which route you can take.
