Alright guys, I need an FE expert here. Swiching heads on the old truck. The heads coming off, C7AE-A, are full, bore size, slanted chambers. The replacement heads, C8AE-H, chambers are only a little larger than the valves. One Ford site I found says they are the same CC, 68-71, but thet sure look different. Any old FE guys here?............Ray

I have paged the FE master for you, lets see if he answers the call.

The first one is sometimes referred to as the "machined" or "horseshoe" chamber, while the other is cast, but if I remember correctly, they're close enough in size that it won't make any difference.

Got the page from Don...Ray, the heads are the same in chamber volume so there should be no difference in comp. ratio unless the new heads have been cut to death. The shape can be different but the volume should be the same. I found the heads are both 67 to 71 CCs Make sure the exhaust bolt pattern is the same, the C7AE-A head is listed for a 66-67 Fairlane/Comet [staggered bolt pattern] and the C8AE-H head is listed for a 360-390-std.428 [verticle bolt holes] and drilled for air holes.

Ford parts interchange says they are the same.

They list the C7AE-A as High Perf. 66 to 68

Two listings for C7AE-A, depending on the application:
    C7AEA... '67 352, 390,410, 428 w/o air, 71.2-74.2cc
    C7AEA, C8OEB2... '68 390w/ air bosses only, Comet, Cougar, Fairlane, Mustang, 67.1-70.1cc
Only listing I could find for C8AEH...68.1-71.1cc

Yep they are the same, also heads with the staggered exhaust bolt pattern include the standard pattern!..

Alright guys, thanks. just FYI, the H heads are vertical only exhaust pattern, and I don't see any air holes either.....Found one scalloped piston, so it is out waiting for +.04 replacement,(factory floaters!) and these slugs are down in the hole, maybe .075/.100, with a .05 or so dish in the pistons? ...MP
