    Hi All,
I am looking for a recommendation on a cam for my 350 (Merc 260). I have two new cams sitting in my garage ready for me to install one of them tomorrow and not sure which one to use. Either one will be used with an Edelbrock EPS intake manifold. I am leaning toward the Comp but would like to hear from one of you cam experts
Here are the cams I have:
    1. Comp Cams 268H http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Se...umber=12-210-2
    2. Edelbrock Performer #2102 http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...ifter_kits.pdf
Recommendations or any experience with either of these cams I would like to hear about.
    Thanks!!

I would run the comp over the edelbrock, I pulled a 272 Comp out of my 350, idled so well I thought is was a stocker. Put in a cam very similar to the Comp 284, which is on the edge for an I/O, due to the idle speed and low vacumn. The 268 would be a good all around cam for a mostly stock motor, the performer is for lowere RPM street use, take a look at the spec's and recommended usage. If you have other concerns I'd call Comp's techline adn discuss it wth the guys who really know the ins and outs of the cams.

I'm running a Comp 270H in a 400 small block. I believe it has .480 lift and 224 duration at .050. I like it a lot. I've only heard good things about the 268H as well.

What type of exhaust and heads are we working with? The Edelbrock cam is not much above the factory cam. Of the two I would go with the Comp. It should idle fine with -2* overlap @ .050 and 48* @ .006. The better the exhaust and heads the more it will come to life.
    I used to run a custom 224/224 114LSA 109ICL .465/.465 282/282 @ .006
hydraulic flat tappet cam for example. It idled fine and had a decent powerband. Coupled with AFR heads, Performer RPM, HP exhaust, it went 70gps @ 5600rpms. Idled fine behind my Alpha 1.

Guy's, thanks for your input the Comp is going in today. As for the exhaust, I just installed a complete new 4" thru hull exhaust system. All new from hi Pro manifolds to exhaust tips lotso $$$ but worth it (my hernia will be better soon after I lifted my old logs off, holy #$%# those are heavy!!). I wasn't going to do anything to the engine until that exhaust was changed out. It would be like trying to blow any performance I added through a straw. The heads are stock for now. I plan on keeping this engine for another season or two and then poking in a 383, but until then I am having fun getting back into the performance stuff.
P.S That Hammond is a sweet ride do you still have it?

Upgraded exhaust will really help. Should make a fun runner. The only restriction is the stock heads. I wish I would have done a 383 for this build but i'm allready flirting with disaster with Mr. Alpha 1.
I could never sell my Hammond! I've had it since new and it will be 23 yrs old this Aug. Still looks as good as the day it came off the lot.
Not the best pic but the only one I have on this pc...

What I want to know is how did Hammond get 60mph out of the box with a stock 260?? before these mods the max could get was 57mpg. My boat and yours are somewhat similar in size and weight. Did they do something to the height of the drive? I know they ran a trick prop

That's about what mine ran stock 59-60. Powerboat test of 1984 got 60 on radar at WOT with the stock 260. The speed is mainly due to how efficient the hull design is. Very light, deep V with a speed pad at the back. At WOT trimmed up the boat is riding high on the pad with hardly any running surface in the water. The less hull in the water the less friction and the faster you will go. The drive is also raised 1.5" above standard X dimension which also helps alot.
Hammond did their research with props as i've tried alot of different ones, Laser, Mirage, Hydromotive semi cleavers and they still do not match the 3 blade Merc Racing cleaver that came on the boat. 23p
I've suprised alot of BBC boats with how fast a little 350 can be.
The fastest i've had the boat was 78mph gps with a 355 that had a big solid lifter cam, AFR heads, HP exhaust, Vic Jr, roller valvetrain. I dropped pitch to 21p get the rpms up and it would WOT @ 6500rpms. That motor was awesome up top and sounded wonderful, but idle quality was horrible. I only ran it 200 hours before the .010" under forged GM crank cracked.
