Thread: Ford F450 Marony sticker translation/guidance:

    We drove the new F450 this morning.
    Wife fell in love with it.
    Ya oughta check them out.
    What we need to be clear on:
    The dealer claims that "14.500 GVW" on the sticker means 25.000 total gvw.
    We don't see it.
    No where does it tell you it'll handle 25.000 GVW.
    It's our first foray into this high of Cap vehicle, and outside of GMC which we are clear on, and we need to go in eyes wide open.
    So how does one add it all up?
    We'd hate to take delivery on something that won't handle a 45 ft Weekend Warrior fiver or equiv. on the strength that "the sales guy said so."
    The drivers position is excellent, the low profile forklift kinda tires look perfect on the custom looking Ford wheels.
    The back seat is a playroom.
    The new F450 is a really nice rig.

    not sure were the dealer got the 14,500 rating from. if you look at the ford site (and the one Mudpumper posted) you can break it down as such.
    with the F450, diesel, automatic trans/with tow boss, 4.88ls gear ratio. the GCWR (gross combined weight rating) is 33,000#. the 5th wheel maximum loaded wieght rating is 24,000#. meaning you subtract the actual weight of the truck. in this case the truck being 9,000#. which is a pretty good estimate for the truck wieght. now that 25,000# that the sticker states could be because if its options. the higher the gear ratio the lower the GCWR becomes and so on. also this rating could be the GVWR meaning the truck weight is 9,000# and its load capacity is 6,000#,which is what i am pretty sure the case here. i listed the highest available with tow boss. basically thier full on towing vehicle. you may want to check to see what truck you drove at the dealer. it may not have had the full tow package. sometimes a dealer will tell you the rating of 14,500# for the reason of class "C" drivers license in california. if your 5th wheel has a rating of 15,000# or higher, you will need a non comercial class "A" drivers license. over 10,000# but under 15,000# you will need a restriction 41 endorsement added to your class "C" drivers license. from what i gather, the 5th wheel trailer you are looking to buy will most likely be over the 15,000# rating, so be prepared to get the non commercial class "A". as for the new F450 i believe it will fit the bill for you but do your research and make sure.

    Also if you go 26,001 or over of GVWR you will need more than a class C.

    at some point you're probably gonna regret that ford tranny.... maybe the
    6.0 will erupt first though.

    Ya the F450 i believe he is discussing is the new 2008 with the 6.4 in it not the 6.0 and i believe it has a new tranny aswell. It also does not exceed 26,001 GVWR and what the dealer probably meant was the trucks GVWR is 14,500 and the GCWR is 33,000 on those trucks if properly equipped. The GCWR is what says how much is can handle extra over the weight of the truck.

    If his GCWR (which is the same as GVWR) goes over 26,000 pnds he will need more than a class C. So if it lists at 33,000 GCWR he will need more than a C.

    GCWR and GVWR are not the same thing, if that was true I would need a CDL for my F650 and I dont have air brakes and I dont need a CDL. The GCWR for the F650 ranges from 33,000-70,000 and has nothing to do with the fact that an F650 is 26000 GVWR. Which is just under 26001 for a reason so you dont have to get a CDL.

    So you are saying at 33,000#s you can drive with a class C??
    As for the F650 or any larger truck, you can choose to have it rated at many different weights. The F650 starts at 26,000 (so you do not need anything besides a class C). Anything over you need more than a C.
