A soldier who left Orange County in 1950 to fight in the Korean War has finally returned home.
Army Corporal Jimmie Dorser's flag-draped coffin, escorted by the California Honor Guard, police and military officials, was presented to his sisters, Terri Bommarito, 66, and Betty Neilson, 71.
"It's been difficult, but I'm glad he's home," Bommarito said.
Dorser was 18 when he left for war. He was shot in the leg and froze to death in the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. He was listed as missing in action for three years, then declared missing, presumed dead.
Neilson was 15 years old when her brother left. She knew immediately something had happened to her big brother when his letters stopped.
"He was a prolific letter writer, even at that young age," she said.
A North Korean farmer in the Chosin Reservoir stumbled upon a mass grave in 2002. Dorser was one of the seven soldiers found in that grave.
Dorser will be buried Saturday with full military honors at El Toro.
