Chevy Tech Question

I have a 99 Chevy Tahoe and recently when you try to start it, it will turn everything on but it wont turn over the starter. Turn it off and on half a dozen times and then it will finally turn over and start. Any ideas of what is going wrong???

Could also be the neutral safety switch on the trans. Get under the truck and bang on the starter with a mallet while someone turns the key...if it cranks, the starter is bad...if it doesn't crank, the starter still could be bad

Anyone else have any idea's? I like the starter idea but I dont want to just start buying shit for this thing. Im sure you all understand.

Check all the battery terminal connections and clean them.
Check the connections at the starter that they are clean and tight.
Now try it again.
Using a test light....check that you have power at the small terminal on the starter solenoid while someone turns the key to start position.
If you do have power at that terminal when key is turned and still a no start situation....replace the complete starter. It could just be the solonoid but I doubt you want to mess with that. Just replace the whole thing.
