Stock '96 Mercruiser 502 MPI's with fresh rebuilds. Oil temp gets 300-350 deg. at WOT. Oil pressure drops due to hot oil I think. Coolers and lines are clear and flow good. Engine temp. doesn't get hot. What can be going wrong? Any help thanks!

That's way too hot! You will be rebuilding again soon if you keep running at those temps!!! Bigger oil cooler and verify accuracy of gauge.

Yep way too hot, if coolers and water lines aren't plugged you need larger coolers!..

Your oil temp should be around 215-220. Hot enough to boil off condensation but no hotter. 300 and above is WAAYYY to hot.

    DMOORE is dead on here!
Si! Senor! Never, Never over 250-275 MAX MAX MAX on a really bad day, full out for an extended period, pushin' it. Oil is breaking down over 260, lets not get into synthetics here.... Fact is it's too F!@#'n hot.... Period.

Yes, way too hot. Oil is fine to 250°F but would not run hotter than that.
Where are you measuring temp ?
Do you have the OE cooler that's mounted above bellhousing or has it been changed?
Have you changed cooling system from OE ?
Why was engine rebuilt - failure ? Maintenance due to hrs ?

It sounds like you have a bad oil by pass valve . When you run hard the oil is by passing the cooler. I had the same thing happen. Replace it with a #30 valve. Do a search on oil by pass valves lots of good info.

Oil temp is read at the remote oil filter, where it was before the rebuild. Stock oil cooler mounted at bell housing. Stock cooling system. Engines where rebuilt due to high hours.

Where is the oil bypass located on a stock 502?
