Sitting in Ocotillo this Easter weekend and a person from San Diego Off Road was walking from camp to camp telling everyone about the proposed closure. The BLM wants to lease out an enitial 14,731 acres for Geothermal wells and expand this to 40,320 acres.
This area is roughly from the 78 to the S-22 North to South and Hidden Valley camp to the 86 East to West, Pole line is in the middle. This is a majority of Ocotillo
They have been calling this the Truckhaven Geothermal Project even though this is Ocotillo Wells.
San Diego Off Road is asking every one to write letters because the BLM seem to loose emails
WE ONLY HAVE UNTIL APRIL 30TH.
Please check the details at www.sandiegoOffroad.com

If thats your ride spot, ya need to get in with the group working it.
But I'm sure you already know that.
Friends of Sand Mountain, a non-profit multi-access group has been involved in a stakeholders RAC with BLM over a Conservation Plan for the Sand Mountain Recreation Area for several years. After giving, giving, and giving, an agreement was hammered out with the local businesses, eco-socialists, and BLM.
When the map was released, just in time for Easter, it includes giant tracts of land closures never agreed to. When FOSM's president threatened to recant the Support of the group from the plan, BLM's response was a shrug.
IMHO, there are a large number of eco-socialists working for BLM, all pursuing there own anti-access agendas, and to hell with what the public is interested in, or the law for that matter.

I saw the issue this weekend, There were at least 2 new areas by the airport closed dont know the size but I would guess 10 plus acers a piece. Fn bullshit and yes I will get involved, the more they close the greaterth risk of acidents due to condensing the riding area more.
They wont stop if we dont try.

Attention all concerned desert enthusiasts: It appears there is a pending closure at a popular off-road riding area in Southern California. Even if you do not use the Ocotillo Wells riding area, a closure here would have far-reaching impact on all ATV and off-road motorcycle riders.
Please check this out, and send written comments opposing this closure.

Be sure to WRITE a letter!!!
If you ride somewhere else this will impact you. This will displace thousands of riders to look for other areas to ride.
I am sending mine today and another 25 times before the end date

Some here may not remeber but Ocotillo was Half the size it is now. Back in 2000 or 2001 they opened the area east of pole line road. This was the same time they were closing areas in Glamis.
This doubled the riding area in Ocotillo. This closure will reduce the riding area smaller then the 90s
