I bought this Yellow 17 foot sanger, year unknown, for parts. I have taken out the ss tanks, tac, and the 10 degree casale box that has a wirlaway.

I'm putting alot of the hardware into a '69 sanger 18' 10", that is in dire need of a restoration. My '69 had a small direct drive halibrand box mounted under the rear bench seat. see pic of box
I thought that this swap would be pretty easy, but no. The problem I'm having is the mounts on the casale will almost be above the stringers. Even the v-drive braces will have to go up at an angel from the stringers. (see pics) The parts boat had the drive mounted between the front seats. My 69 will have the drive mount quite away behind the front seat making it dificult to reach the in-out handle and to depress the button to unlock the drive. In the pics the drive will still need to go a little higher and further back to engage the coupling on the prop shaft. I've seen sangers with the box mounted between the struts. any help would be greatly appreciated thanxs david

I'd say just have a new mount plate made for the Casale if your set on putting it in. There were nothing wrong with those halibrand v-drives though, other than finding gears for them.

with no neutral I cant start the boat out of the water to check out anything. If you get a dead battery cant jump start it. the list goes on. it's a PIA. Ya i thought of extending the mount but i've seen others mounted lower because the height of the box will also play into the height of the motor.

The way it looks to me. You would have to move the hole for the prop shaft. Then you would need the prop strut off the other boat. They must be different angle boxes. This would allow the shaft to be lower in the stringers.

Why not just put a transmission in the boat? idea It would be much easier.

The parts boat has 7" tall stingers. The 69 sanger has 4.5" tall stringers. On the yellow boat from the center of the propshaft to the botom of the boat is 3"s The 69 is 3.5 "s. just .5 inches, but with the taller stringers of the yellow boat the drives works More pics are in the image center under david_396. A trans was the original Idea but the i found the yellow boat for cheap. thanxs db

Ok that makes sense. Well you could E-Bay the box and put in a nice Glide or Turbo-400.

You also have to take into consideration that the original box doesn't have the in and out section of the v-drive. By adding that to the box you move the v-drive further forward and also "up" because of the angle of the prop shaft. I see it as having to ways to go. Make new mounts for the v-drive that will bolt into your stingers or glass on some more wood on top of the stringers so that the exsisting mounts will have something to bolt up to
