Thread: Mercrusier Oil Filters

I have a Mercruiser Mag 350 with the stubby remote oil filter. The Mercruiser oil filters are now $15 apiece. I can't beleive that AC/Delco, Fram, Purolator doesn't have a replacement model for a lot less cost. Is anyone using another brand and if so what is their filter number. Thanks

Take the oil filter number down to the auto parts store and cross reference the number in the parts catalog and it will give you part numbers of several other brands. Its probably a Fram PH1 or PH30...

Tried that at Pep Boys, Auto Zone and Kragen. They have cross-reference for just about everything except Mercruiser. Thanks

You could try the Sierra brand of filters. They are direct replacements for the Mercruisers. I don't know if you could get those where you're at or not. They also make gear lube and fuel filters and other Mercruiser replacement stuff.

Some of these are tall and some are the short version. I'm pretty confident the Mobil M-1 is a short filter.

Here is some information from K&N in regards to their filters, which I feel are excellent:
    Re: K&N oil filter
It comes OE with the short one, HP-2002, which is actually slightly taller than the Merc. filter. Most people use the taller one (HP-3002) thinking more is better. If you are bad at changing your oil on time, sure its a good call as it takes longer to fill up with crap. But if you are good at doing it one time, the smaller one is fine.
    HP-2002 is 4.60" in Height &
    HP-3002 is 5.52" in Height.
Both have anti-drain back valves and a can burst strength of 362.3 PSI which is almost double that of the Fram.

The Mercruiser oil filters are now $15 apiece.
The genuine Merc oil filter retails for $9.00. Find another place to buy it. It is a better quality filter than the Fram PH5 but they are interchangeable.
