Thread: Loose propnuts.

My youngest and I went to the lake to test a gear change. We went for a dip and I was feeling up the underwater gear. The propnut was loose and backed up against the cotter key. The prop key is seated and all that good stuff. It probably started with 75 foot pounds at installation. I have a castle nut and cotter key. Should I go to a locknut and maybe a jamb nut on top of that? Do I need to locktight the nuts. I'd have bet the farm that the nut was tight enough.

Always check it right after your 1st hard run! I use the double nut, just so I can relax in the boat! Just my 2 cents.
