    How about lake mead.
At least there is an airport to fly into close by.

I don't know what the start format is, but in the entry form it states that boats running 110 MPH or faster are not allowed to have back seat passengers.

I knew that they would ruin a good thing. Granted, it can
be dangerous but other than a certain 37 talon, I've never
really seen or heard of very many crazies in these half mil
dollar and up boats. it's the "wannabe" guy in the $75,000
boat that concerns me. they should let about the fastest 10 guys go with the old style start from the Buoy line
except move the buoy line back about 500 yards towards the channel. then break the rest of them up into 2 or 3
groups with the last one going to the river first instead
of to the springs. (like they used to and never had an
accident). Perfect, a bunch of California people telling us
Arizona people how to do it even though they can't get
anything right themselves. Just what we needed.
I hope that the big boys will stack up while idling out and create their own little "start" so that the rest of us can
see it first hand. After all, this isn't a race Bob!!! Tell that to those boys that just spent upwards of 3/4 mil or more!
    Sorry for the rant.

Yeah you are way off base! If you think just because a guy goes out and spends a million on a boat he knows more than a guy who spends $75,000 you don't have a clue. Half the guys that own the big boats really are only good at writing the check not driving the boat! With that old shiada you must really be a "wannabe".

You just want a shorter drive.
I don't drive I fly and we have 3 airports here. Mead is great as well, Havasu is just the worst place they could of picked.

for those of you that got offended, perhaps I should clarify.
I was not intending to say that people with less dollars invested in their boats don't know what they're doing.
What was going through my mind was this, two years at
this poker run I was in a big cat going 140-150 mph and
maybe because there are fewer of them but after the initial
mile, everyone was spread out pretty good, the big boys
accepted who was fastest etc and everyone cruised at a
pretty good pace after that. I've also ridden two years in
this poker run in 80 to 100 mph boats and I was scared to
death, in both instances, I could reach out and almost touch boats on both sides of me and we were in traffic
that was so thick and out of control that it wasn't safe.
If one guy messed up, there would be a pile up 10 boats
deep before anyone would see it coming. This was due to
the fact that this group of people is so competitive. The
one year, Matt Delisio had me in a 40' boat from Dick Simon Marine and the guy driving was a real pro but
I'm surprised at how close everyone was willing to run just
to stay in the hunt. Half were cats and half were v bottoms. I love these poker runs and I don't want them to
go away but it would seem that they're getting more and
more difficult to insure and get permits for. It's a shame.
    Hope that I am wrong.
As for my original post, based on my experience, the big boys stayed spread out and it seemed alot safer than the littler boats. That was my only point.

and no the Schiada doesn't come out for the poker run.
